On June 13, 2025, the Baku Convention Center hosted the premiere of the documentary movie “Thomas Goltz: An Oil Odyssey”, organized by the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).
The event gathered state and government officials, the SOCAR leadership, representatives of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, members of Thomas Goltz’s family, public figures, and 102 Baku Higher Oil School students.
The film highlighted the energy strategy defined by National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the role of the Azerbaijani oil industry in the country’s modern history. It also featured rare archival footage, interviews, and personal memories of Thomas Goltz, a renowned journalist and a true friend of Azerbaijan.
One of the key moments in the film was the historic return of Heydar Aliyev, whose visionary leadership marked a turning point in the nation’s development. The documentary emphasizes how he laid the foundation for Azerbaijan’s political stability, economic progress, and the revival of Azerbaijan’s oil and gas sector, strengthening the country’s role as a key player on the global energy stage.
In his opening remarks, Rector of the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy, Hafiz Pashayev, described Thomas Goltz as an adventurer, adding that he always pursued noble goals.
“An Oil Odyssey” is not only a valuable contribution to the history of Azerbaijan’s energy sector but also a reflection on its national journey through challenges, revival, and growth.
